Nardi Outdoor Sofas
Every outdoor sofa in this category is Nardi, made in Italy from UV stabilised resin, and drawn from two modular systems. Because they are modular you are not choosing a fixed three seater, you are choosing how many of which module you want.
Komodo is the larger and deeper of the two systems. Modules available separately are the single sofa, or Poltrona, the middle module, the corner module, the two seat, the three seat, the Island, the modular daybed and a pouf. Finished sets come in 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11 piece configurations, and the 5 piece corner lounge is offered with standard cushions or with Sunbrella.
Maximo sits lower and takes less floor space. The end module, the middle module, the corner module, a single Poltrona, a three seat sofa and a pouf are all available separately, and the two seat module comes in four colours: Basalto, Gesso, Cactus and Terra.
The reason to buy modular rather than a set is that outdoor areas are rarely rectangular. A corner module and two middles will follow an L shaped courtyard where a fixed three seater leaves a metre of wasted space at one end. It also means you can add a module later rather than replacing the lot.
Sunbrella cushion covers are solution dyed acrylic and hold their colour under sustained sun considerably better than a printed fabric, which is the upgrade worth taking on anything that sits in full northern exposure.

What is a modular outdoor sofa?
A modular outdoor sofa is built from separate seat modules that combine into whatever shape the space needs, rather than arriving as one fixed sofa. You can start with a small layout and add modules later, rearrange it when the space changes, and move it in pieces instead of trying to carry a three seater through a gate. Both Nardi systems here, Komodo and Maximo, work this way.

What modules make up a Komodo or Maximo layout?
On Komodo: a single sofa or poltrona, a middle sofa module, a corner module or elemento angolo, a pouf, and two seat and three seat sofas, plus a daybed configuration. On Maximo: a poltrona, a middle module, an end sofa or elemento terminale, a pouf, and two seat and three seat sofas. Corner modules turn the run and end modules finish it, so a corner layout needs both.

Do I buy modules individually or as a set?
Both are offered. The complete sets, for example the Komodo three, seven, nine and eleven piece sets, are the simplest route and come with everything matched, and you choose one frame colour and one cushion fabric across the set. Buying modules individually costs more effort but lets you build a layout to your exact space and add to it later. Because the systems are modular, neither choice locks you in.

What is the difference between Komodo and Maximo?
They are separate systems and the modules do not interchange. Komodo comes in White, Tortora, Anthracite and Agave Green and carries an interlaced resin weave inspired by tree branches, with backrests and armrests that clip on from any side. Maximo belongs to Nardi's Regeneration line, moulded from regenerated fibreglass reinforced resin with cushions in regenerated Sunbrella fabric, in Gesso, Cactus, Basalto and Terra, with lower, cleaner horizontal lines.

Do the sofas include cushions?
The complete sets do. Individual modules and frames may not, and some are listed explicitly as a frame with the cushions sold separately. Cushion covers are offered in Nardi acrylic and in Sunbrella, which are not the same thing: Sunbrella is solution dyed and holds up best in constant full sun. What load are the sofas rated to?
Nardi rates its seating to 160kg. That is a seating figure, so do not apply it to tables or to standing on a module. Nardi's outdoor furniture is independently tested by CATAS to EN 581, EN 1728 and EN 15373 Level 3, which is contract level testing, and it is why the same sofas are specified in commercial venues as well as in homes.

Can the sofas stay outside, and do I need covers?
The frames can. The resin is UV treated and mass coloured, so it will not rust, rot, fade badly or need painting, and it washes down with warm water and a mild detergent. The cushions are the part to manage: let them dry fully after rain, never store them damp, and bring them in or cover them over a long unused stretch, because outdoor fabric always ages faster than the frame does.
