How to Choose the Right Size Cantilever Umbrella

Size the cantilever canopy to fully cover the area you are shading with at least 60cm overhang on all sides. A 2.8m x 2.8m square covers a two-seat lounge setting or a pair of sun loungers. A 3m x 3m square covers a 4-seat outdoor dining table or a larger lounge grouping. A 3.5m octagonal covers a generous lounge setting or three to four sun loungers. The 4m octagonal covers a large lounge grouping or a hotel pool deck section with multiple loungers.

For pool deck applications, position the canopy to provide shade across the full sun lounger length during peak afternoon hours — account for the sun's angle and direction at your location, and use the umbrella's rotation function to reposition shade as the sun moves.

Cantilever Umbrella Base Requirements

Cantilever umbrellas require heavier bases than equivalent-size market umbrellas because the canopy load is offset from the base centre. Minimum base weights: 2.8–3m cantilever — 50 kg minimum. 3.5–4m cantilever — 80–100 kg minimum. In exposed or elevated positions, use a base heavier than the stated minimum.
