Resin Outdoor Lounges
Resin outdoor lounges are the low maintenance answer for an Australian outdoor area that takes real sun. Resin does not rust, does not need oiling, and does not swell when it rains, so the annual upkeep is soap, water and a hose.
Most of this range is Nardi, made in Italy, and it is organised around two modular systems plus a few complete settings:
- Komodo, the larger modular system. Single sofa, two seat, three seat, corner and island modules, a modular daybed, and finished sets in 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11 piece configurations. The Ombra 2 sunshade attaches to the daybed.
- Maximo, a lower and more compact profile. Two seat modules come in Basalto, Gesso, Cactus and Terra, with a three seat sofa alongside.
- Complete settings, including the Folio 4 piece, the Net 4 piece bench lounge set, and the Alba 3 and 4 piece settings for a balcony or small courtyard.
The practical reason to choose modular over a fixed set is that a courtyard changes shape over time. A Komodo corner run can be broken into two separate seating groups for a party and put back afterwards, which a welded three seater cannot do.
One thing worth knowing before you buy: resin frames are light, which makes them easy to move but also means an exposed balcony in wind needs the cushions stored and the lighter modules weighted or brought in. That is a fair trade for furniture you can reconfigure single handed.

Resin Outdoor Lounges - FAQs

-
What is a resin outdoor lounge?
A resin outdoor lounge is a sofa setting with frames moulded from resin rather than built from timber or metal. On the Nardi ranges here that is fibreglass reinforced resin, UV treated and mass coloured, so the colour runs through the material and there is nothing to rust, rot or repaint. The frames go outside and stay there, which is the whole point of them.
-
What does modular actually mean here?
It means the lounge is made of separate pieces that clip or sit together, so the shape of the setting is your decision rather than the manufacturer's. On Komodo and Maximo the modules include a single sofa, middle modules, corner or end modules and a pouf, and on Komodo the backrests and armrests clip on from any side. You can add modules later and rearrange the layout whenever the space changes.
-
What set sizes are available?
Komodo is sold in three, five, seven, nine and eleven piece sets, plus a daybed configuration. Maximo comes as two seat and three seat modular sofas. There are also smaller complete settings from other ranges, including Alba three piece and four piece settings, a Nardi Net four piece bench lounge set and a Folio four piece setting. Start from how many people you seat and how much floor area the lounge can have.
-
What is the difference between Komodo and Maximo?
They are two different Nardi systems and the easiest way to tell them apart is the colours. Komodo comes in White, Tortora, Anthracite and Agave Green, and its frames carry an interlaced weave inspired by tree branches. Maximo is part of Nardi's Regeneration line, moulded from regenerated resin, and comes in Gesso, Cactus, Basalto and Terra, with lower, cleaner horizontal lines. Modules are not interchangeable between the two.
-
Do the frames come with cushions?
Not always, and this is the thing to check before ordering. Some items are listed as a frame only and the cushions are a separate purchase, for example the Komodo 5 Frame and the Komodo 5 Cushions. The complete lounge sets include both, and you choose one frame colour and one cushion fabric for the whole set. Read the product title carefully so you do not end up with frames and nothing to sit on.
-
How much weight will resin outdoor furniture take?
Nardi rates its seating to 160kg. That figure applies to seating, so do not read it across to tables or to standing on a module. Nardi's outdoor furniture is independently tested by CATAS to the EN 581, EN 1728 and EN 15373 Level 3 standards, which is the contract level testing that lets the same furniture be used in commercial venues as well as at home.

How do I look after a resin lounge outdoors?
Wash the frames with warm water, a mild detergent and a soft brush, and rinse with fresh water in a coastal position. The resin is UV treated and needs no sealing or painting. The cushions are the part that wants attention: let them dry fully after rain, do not store them damp, and bring them in or cover them over a long unused period, because fabric always ages faster than the frame.
