Choosing a size. The usual mistake is going too small. For a lounge setting the rug should sit under the front legs of every seat rather than floating in the middle of the arrangement, so measure the full footprint of the setting and then work outwards. A round rug suits a round table or a curved modular lounge; a rectangle suits a sofa and coffee table run, or a long balcony. Under a dining table, allow enough width that chairs stay on the rug when they are pulled out.
Living with one. Hose it down, brush it with a soft broom and let it dry flat. Lift it off the surface underneath now and then so both can dry properly, particularly on timber decking. Roll rather than fold it for winter storage. Nothing here needs sealing, oiling or professional cleaning.
