Outdoor cushions are categorised by their cover fabric: solution-dyed acrylic and UV-resistant olefin (polyolefin) are the two main outdoor-rated fabrics stocked for Australian conditions. Solution-dyed acrylic — used in the Nardi cushion range — incorporates colour into the fibre during manufacturing rather than surface-dyeing, making it colourfast and fade-resistant under sustained UV exposure. UV-resistant olefin is a lightweight synthetic with high UV stability and a fast-drying surface — well suited to high-use positions and humid or coastal environments.

Sizing outdoor cushions correctly depends on your furniture. For outdoor dining chairs, a seat pad 40–45cm square covers most standard seat depths. For outdoor lounges and sofas, match cushion depth to the seat — typically 50–60cm seat cushions and 80–100cm back cushions for most outdoor lounge configurations. For sun loungers, check whether the model accommodates a full-length lounger cushion (170–200cm) or two-part upper and lower cushion. Outdoor Furniture Cover Guide — Sizing and Material Selection

Measure your outdoor furniture at its widest and deepest points — with chairs in the seated position around the table — and add 5–10cm clearance on each side. Cover drop (the depth from the top surface to the ground) should reach close to ground level on all sides for full weather protection. Common sizing: a 150 x 210cm rectangular cover for a 4-seat dining setting; 180 x 300cm for a 6–8 seat setting; 120 x 120cm square for a 2-seat lounge unit. When selecting between sizes, choose larger — a cover slightly oversized protects better than one that doesn't reach the furniture base.

Choose covers with built-in side vents to allow moisture to escape and prevent condensation accumulating under the cover.
