Nardi Rio Range

Rio is Nardi's extendable outdoor dining table, made in two lengths and two materials. The smaller runs 140cm to 210cm and the larger 210cm to 280cm, each available with a resin top or a powder coated aluminium frame.

It is also sold as complete settings from 7 to 11 pieces with Net, Bit, Doga and Trill chairs. Talk to our team about where the table will spend most of its life, because the two sizes overlap at 210cm and that changes which one to buy. Aluminium is the better choice at the longer length and for commercial handling, while resin is lighter and needs less looking after.

Nardi Rio Extendable Dining Table Set - FAQs

  1. What sizes does the Rio table come in?
Rio comes in two lengths, and each is offered in two materials. The smaller table runs from 140cm closed to 210cm extended. The larger runs from 210cm closed to 280cm extended. Note that the two overlap at 210cm, which is the useful thing to know when choosing: if 210cm is where the table will spend most of its life, the larger model sitting closed is more stable and more solid than the smaller model held permanently at full extension.
  2. What is the difference between the resin and aluminium Rio?
The resin Rio has a polypropylene top, UV stabilised, which will not split, needs no sealing and can simply be hosed down. It is the lighter and lower maintenance of the two. The aluminium Rio uses a powder coated frame, which is more rigid across a long span and holds a flatter surface when the table is fully extended. That difference matters far more at 280cm than at 140cm, and it matters more again under commercial handling.
  3. How does the extension work?
Rio is an extendable table, so the top opens and the extra length comes from the table itself rather than from a separate leaf that has to be stored. There is nothing to carry in from a shed and nothing to lose. Plan the space at the extended length plus about a metre beyond each end for chairs, not at the closed length. Keep the runners free of grit, since that is what makes an extendable mechanism stiff over time.
  4. Which chairs are the Rio settings sold with?
Rio is sold as complete settings from 7 to 11 pieces with a range of Nardi chairs, including the Net chair, Net Relax, the Bit side chair, Doga in both armchair and bistrot form, and Trill. There is also a bench dining setting on the aluminium frame. The piece count includes the table, so a 7 piece is one table and six chairs. Choosing the chair is a separate decision from choosing the table, so pick the one you would buy on its own.
  5. How much space do I need around a Rio table?
Work from the extended length. For the larger Rio that means planning around 280cm rather than 210cm, and leaving roughly a metre beyond each end so chairs can pull out when the table is fully open. Allow walking room around the outside of that again. Measuring at the closed length is the most common error made when buying an extendable table, and it usually only becomes apparent the first time you try to seat a full group.
  6. Can I order Rio settings in quantity for a venue?
Yes. Outdoor Furniture Ideas supplies Rio to restaurants, function venues and clubs that need a floor which reconfigures for a booking. Trade accounts are available with volume pricing. Our team can quote settings in quantity, advise on resin against aluminium for the handling your venue will give the tables, confirm colour availability across the chair count and stage delivery to a build program. Send the floor plan through and we will work out the table mix.

The Rio Extendable Tables

Rio is Nardi's extendable outdoor dining table, made in two lengths and two materials. It exists for the household or venue that seats six most days and twelve occasionally.

On this shelf it also appears as complete settings paired with Net, Bit, Doga, Trill and Net Relax chairs.

  • Rio 140 to 210cm, in resin and in aluminium
  • Rio 210 to 280cm, in resin and in aluminium
  • Settings from 7 to 11 pieces with a range of Nardi chairs
  • A bench dining setting on the aluminium frame

Resin Top or Aluminium Frame

The resin Rio is a polypropylene top, UV stabilised, which will not split, does not need sealing and can be hosed down. It is the lighter and lower maintenance of the two.

The aluminium Rio uses a powder coated frame. It is more rigid across a long span and it holds a flatter surface when fully extended, which matters more at 280cm than at 140cm.

Two Lengths, Four Numbers

The smaller table runs 140cm closed to 210cm extended. The larger runs 210cm closed to 280cm extended, so the two overlap at 210cm.

That overlap is the decision point. If 210cm is where the table will spend most of its life, the larger model closed is more stable than the smaller model fully extended.

Resin Rio vs Aluminium Rio

Resin is lighter, cheaper to keep and completely indifferent to rain. Aluminium is more rigid, feels more solid under a heavy setting, and is the better choice for the 280cm length or for commercial use.

Both extend the same way and both are made in Italy.

The rule. Choose resin for a home terrace and lower maintenance. Choose aluminium at the longer length, or anywhere the table gets commercial handling.

Extended Footprint and the Mechanism

Plan the space at the extended length plus a metre beyond each end for chairs, not at the closed length. This is the most common mistake made when buying an extendable table.

Keep the runners clean. Grit is what makes an extendable mechanism stiff, and a rinse when the top is washed prevents it entirely.

How to Choose a Rio Table

Step 1. Count both numbers. Everyday covers and entertaining covers. The gap decides the model.

Step 2. Check the overlap. If 210cm is the usual length, the larger table closed beats the smaller one extended.

Step 3. Choose the material. Resin for a home terrace, aluminium for length and for commercial use.

Step 4. Measure at full stretch. Extended length plus chair room, before anything is ordered.
